Description

There are over 801 000 children in South Africa who live with life-limiting conditions that could drastically shorten their lives and diminish any quality of life they could enjoy. Less than 5% of these children are accessing the proper care.

The International Children’s Palliative Care Network (ICPCN) in partnership with Umduduzi Hospice Care for Children, a charity providing hospice and palliative care to children in the greater Durban area, will be hosting the premiere of an award winning film called ‘Little Stars’. The award winning documentary, produced by Mike Hill and Sue Collins of Moonshine Movies, tells the surprisingly life-affirming stories of children from around the world, including South Africa, living with life-limiting conditions and receiving support in the form of hospice and palliative care. Presented by the acclaimed British actor, David Suchet CBE, the film has already been taken up by the Al Jazeera Documentary Channel for broadcast in 40 countries. You can learn more about this film and the series of short films that have been made in 10 countries at www.littlestars.tv.

The ‘Little Stars’ premiere aims to raise awareness of the rights of children living with incurable and life-threatening illnesses in Durban and the surrounding areas to receive the necessary palliative care.

(The film deals with the sensitive topic of children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions and parental guidance is advised for children under 12 years.)
